LED Holding: one bespoke WordPress theme for a corporate group's four domains

The parent company's website has to explain the division of roles: who steers, who does the operational work, and which company customers, applicants and business partners should turn to. The five group functions get pages of their own, the three subsidiaries direct links. Rather than four independent websites, LED Sinzheim GmbH commissioned a bespoke WordPress theme and plugin for all four domains; concept, design, copy and technical build of the holding website rested with NK IT Service.

The holding company’s website has 13 pages. The home page opens with a hero slider (rotating full-screen images at the top of the page), introduces the three subsidiaries with their logos, explains the group functions and shows the group’s partners and banks as well as its location in Sinzheim. A mega menu (a multi-column drop-down) groups the five group functions under “Steering” and “Management” and links each subsidiary straight to its own website. The five function pages share a common structure from key services and methodology through to frequently asked questions; the “History” page tells the story from 2015 to 2026 as a timeline. All copy was written by NK IT Service, and the dark web design carries the group’s corporate colours.

Under the bonnet, the site runs on the purpose-built theme “LED Theme”, which needs no page builder, and the plugin “LED Site Bootstrap”. The plugin is installed on each of the four domains and defines which company that installation represents; it supplies logos, header images, partner logos and the map preview image, and provides the cookie dialogue together with its consent log (a record of visitors’ cookie choices). The group thus maintains four websites on one codebase (the same program files): changes to the theme or plugin are developed once and can be rolled out to all four domains.

Privacy and security are part of the code itself: the cookie dialogue distinguishes the categories “Necessary” and “External maps”, the Google map in the location section loads only after a click on a static preview image, and the Open Sans typeface is served from the site’s own server rather than from Google. The contact form protects itself with a honeypot (a field invisible to humans that only bots fill in), an arithmetic question and a nonce (a one-time check value against forged submissions) – with no external captcha service (a third-party bot check). For search engines, every page carries its own title, description and Open Graph data (preview data for social networks); the subpages add a breadcrumb trail (a path display showing where the visitor is within the site), structured data in JSON-LD format (machine-readable Schema.org data) describes the organisation, its subsidiaries, breadcrumbs, FAQs and services, and a custom sitemap.xml (an index of all pages for search engines) lists all 13 pages. A skip link (a jump link to the content) and ARIA attributes (additional cues for screen readers) on menu and dialogue support keyboard and screen-reader use.
