Briefly explained
Does the BFSG apply to my website?
Since 28 June 2025 the BFSG has applied to many businesses selling to consumers – online shops, booking functions and banking, transport and telecommunications services are usually covered. Depending on the business model, other companies can fall under it as well.
What penalties apply for breaches?
Under section 19 BFSG, fines of up to €100,000 are possible. On top of that come formal warnings from consumer associations. An accessibility statement is mandatory in any case.
What exactly does the check test?
We test 20 central criteria from WCAG 2.1 Level AA and BITV 2.0: alt text, keyboard navigation, form labels, ARIA conformance, skip links, contrast heuristics and focus indicators. In-depth audits are available separately.
What does full implementation cost?
