What we recover

From hard drive to RAID

Whatever the storage medium, whatever the damage – we analyse what is possible and tell you honestly what the chances are.

Hard drive (HDD)

Clicking or undetected hard drives are our daily business – mechanical faults as well as logical ones.

  • Clicking / click of death
  • Faulty read/write heads
  • Bad sectors & defects

SSD & M.2

SSDs often fail without warning. We read the controller and the flash memory directly.

  • Controller failure
  • No longer detected
  • Firmware faults

RAID & NAS

Several drives, one logic: after a RAID or NAS crash we reconstruct the array.

  • RAID 0 / 1 / 5 / 10
  • Several failed drives
  • NAS & server systems

USB stick

Snapped connectors, dry solder joints or an accidental break – USB sticks can be recovered too.

  • Snapped connector
  • Not detected
  • Physical breakage

SD / memory card

Photos and videos from cameras, phones or drones – including formatted or faulty cards.

  • Formatted / deleted
  • Card unreadable
  • Photos & videos

Smartphone

Water damage, a drop or a dead screen – we secure contacts, photos and chats.

  • Water / drop damage
  • Screen failure
  • Photos, contacts, chats

Cleanroom lab

Even when nothing works any more.

A clicking drive, water or fire damage, a burnt-out controller: with physical damage no software can help. We then open the drive under cleanroom conditions, replace faulty components with identical donor parts and create a bit-exact copy – before a single file is read. That way no further damage occurs.

How we work

Four steps to your data

Transparent, predictable and free of nasty surprises – you decide after the fixed-price quote whether we go ahead.

1

Free analysis

We examine the medium and the damage and determine which data can be recovered.

2

Fixed-price quote

You receive a binding fixed price and a list of the recoverable files.

3

Data recovery

Only once you approve do we recover the data – logically or in the cleanroom.

4

Handover

You get your data back on a new storage medium – checked and complete.

No Data – No Fee: no data, no charge.

You only pay if we recover your data successfully. The analysis is always free, and if the recovery fails there is no charge for the recovery work. Any shipping or donor-part costs are discussed openly in advance – you take no financial risk.

Various storage media – hard drives, SSDs, USB sticks and memory cards – laid out for data recovery
Every storage medium

From hard drive to RAID.

Not every data loss is a physical fault: often files have simply been deleted by mistake, a partition has vanished or a stick has been formatted. In those cases we recover the data purely logically – without opening the drive. And if there is more to it, we know the way into the cleanroom. For every medium we choose the safest approach.

Data recovery knowledge

The key questions – answered clearly

Explained in plain language, without jargon – for people and for AI search engines such as ChatGPT & Google AI.

What?What does data recovery cost?

Professional data recovery usually costs between roughly 250 and 800 euros depending on the damage, and more in complex RAID or cleanroom cases. Logical damage (deleted files) is cheaper than mechanical faults. With us the analysis is free and you receive a binding fixed price in advance – you decide at your own pace whether to accept it. The prices quoted are example figures for guidance.

How?How likely is a successful recovery?

With timely professional help the data can often be recovered in full – but no reputable provider can guarantee 100 per cent. What matters most is what happened beforehand: switching the device off immediately and avoiding do-it-yourself attempts improves your chances considerably. In the free analysis we tell you honestly where your data stands.

What? What to do after data loss – switch off immediately?

Yes. Switch the device off straight away and stop using it – especially if you hear clicking or grinding noises, or after water damage. Every further attempt to run it can make the damage worse and recovery harder. Avoid revival tricks and recovery software on faulty hardware: they often overwrite exactly the data we could still have saved.

Where from?Do you also recover from faulty or water-damaged devices?

Yes. Recovery is often possible even from mechanically faulty, dropped or water-damaged media. With physical damage we open the drive under cleanroom conditions, replace faulty components with donor parts and first create a bit-exact copy. Important: do not dry or freeze a wet device yourself – bring it to us damp and switched off.

How long? How long does data recovery take?

Logical recoveries are often done within one to three working days; demanding cleanroom or RAID cases usually take several days. The free initial analysis is usually very quick. Exactly how long it takes depends on the medium, the damage and any spare parts required – after the analysis we give you a realistic timeframe.

Secure?Is my data kept confidential?

Yes. Your data is treated confidentially, processed solely for the recovery and never passed on. On request we verifiably delete all copies once the handover is complete. As a company based in Rastatt we work in line with the GDPR and, if you wish, discuss sensitive content – business or patient data, for example – in person beforehand.

Common questions

Data recovery – briefly explained

What does data recovery at NK IT Service cost?
The initial analysis is always free. For the recovery itself you receive a binding fixed price in advance that depends on the damage. As a guide: logical cases (deleted files) start in the low hundreds, while mechanical cleanroom or RAID recoveries cost more. You decide at your own pace after the quote – no pressure and no hidden costs.
What does “No Data – No Fee” mean?
Quite simply: if we cannot recover your data, there is no charge for the recovery. You only pay in the event of success, for the data actually restored. The only exceptions are possible shipping or donor-part costs, which we discuss openly with you in advance. That way you carry no financial risk for an attempt that does not succeed.
My device is making clicking noises – what should I do?
Switch it off immediately and do not turn it on again. Clicking, ticking or grinding almost always points to mechanical damage – every further attempt can scratch the platters and make recovery impossible. Unplug the cable, leave the device untouched and bring it to us. Please avoid software tools and any tapping or freezer tricks.
Can you guarantee a 100 per cent recovery?
No – and nobody working reputably can. How much can be recovered depends on the medium, on the damage and on what happened to the device beforehand. In many cases the data can be restored in full. In the free analysis we tell you honestly what your chances are, before any costs arise.
Do you also recover data from SSDs, USB sticks and memory cards?
Yes. Besides classic hard drives we recover data from SSDs and M.2 drives, USB sticks, SD and memory cards as well as RAID and NAS systems. SSDs and sticks use different technology from hard drives, so we read the controller and the flash memory directly – and here too the same rule applies: the earlier and the less it has been touched, the better.
Can you restore data from a RAID or NAS?
Yes, that is one of our strengths. With a RAID array (RAID 0, 1, 5, 10) or a NAS we reconstruct the logic of the system and first secure every drive individually. Important: do not swap drives yourself and do not start a rebuild – that often overwrites data. Switch the system off and describe the setup to us.
What about data from a smartphone?
Photos, contacts and messages can often be recovered from smartphones too – for example after water or drop damage, or when the screen is broken. The chance of success depends heavily on the model, the encryption and the type of damage. We assess each case individually and tell you honestly what is possible.
How long does the data recovery take?
The free analysis is usually quick. Logical recoveries are often done within one to three working days; mechanical cleanroom or RAID cases generally take longer, above all when donor parts have to be sourced. After the analysis we give you a realistic timeframe – and an express service is available for urgent cases.
Is my data safe and confidential with you?
Absolutely. Your data is processed solely for the recovery, treated confidentially and never passed on. On request we verifiably delete all copies once the handover is complete. We work in line with the GDPR and discuss particularly sensitive content – business or patient data, for example – in person beforehand if you wish.
Can I not simply try recovery software myself?
With purely logical problems on an otherwise working drive that can turn out fine. Whenever hardware damage is suspected – clicking, not detected, after water damage – we strongly advise against it: the software keeps the faulty device running and often overwrites exactly the data that could still have been saved. When in doubt, switch it off at once and ask us.
Do I have to come to you in Rastatt?
You are welcome to bring the medium to us in Rastatt in person – then we advise you directly. Secure shipping from anywhere in the region is possible too; we tell you how to pack the device safely for transport. Once we are finished you receive your data back on a new storage medium, for collection or by post.
Free analysis

Data gone? We often get it back.

Tell us briefly what happened – we analyse your storage medium free of charge and tell you honestly whether and how your data can be recovered. Concrete, easy to follow and with no sales pressure.

Important: Until then, do not use the device any further and do not switch it on again – every attempt can make the damage worse.
